Police have released the identity of a 17-year-old teen stabbed to death at a Fairfield County home where three others were injured.
James McGrath, age 17, of Shelton, a junior at Fairfield Prep, where he was a member of the lacrosse and football teams, died following an incident on Laurel Glenn Drive in Shelton.
Police and EMS responded to the home around 11:50 p.m. on Saturday, May 14, after receiving a report of a fight and stabbing, said Det. Richard Bango, of the Shelton Police.
Responding officers located numerous teenagers outside of a home, with four victims, Bango said.
The four were transported to an area hospital where McGrath died, Bango said.
On Sunday, Fairfield Prep released a statement regarding McGrath's death:
"The Fairfield Prep Community mourns the loss of junior Jimmy McGrath and we extend our deepest sympathies to the McGrath family," said Colleen Allen, spokeswoman for Fairfield Prep. "Jimmy was a beloved student and athlete on the football and lacrosse teams, and will forever be a member of the Prep Brotherhood."
Allen said more than 1,000 people gathered at a private prayer service on campus Sunday, May 15, followed by a schoolwide service Monday, May 16, where President Christian Cashman addressed the students, faculty, and staff.
“I offer once again Prep’s loving condolence and embrace of the McGrath family," Allen said.
The investigation is active and ongoing, police said.
As of Monday, May 16, no arrests have been made, Bango said.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Shelton Police Detective Bureau at 203-924-1544.
